About Us

As a young mother in the late 1990's, I was searching for a cloth diaper system that was absorbent and made with natural fibers. I stumbled on wool as an alternative to plastic. I've sewn since I was 8 years old, so I bought some 100% wool shirts and started making a pattern to fit each of my own children. I had every size by 2000: newborn through toddler.

I started selling my diaper covers, paired with hemp fitted diapers or prefolds, sewing them in my living room. I learned html and created my first website called Monster Baby. In 2004 I teamed up with 15 other mamas and created a cooperative to sell our handmade products together. By 2005, Etsy emerged onto the scene, and our little cooperative fell apart. 

I finally caved and started an Etsy shop in 2018 and started selling wool diaper covers under the name Ancient Friend, which is the meaning of my name. I have been trying to break away and become independent again, so this website is allowing me to fulfill that goal.

Now in 2026, I am also branching out into other items and services. I do local alterations and bake bread for local pick-up.
